Grand Valley State University is located in Allendale, on Michigan's West Coast, midway between Michigan's second largest city, Grand Rapids, and the beautiful sandy beaches of Lake Michigan. The University is located on 500 hectares, about 2 hours from Chicago and Detroit. Grand Valley State University is a four-year public university enrolling more than 25,000 students, including over 430 international students from more than 80 countries.
The focus on academic excellence is evident at Grand Valley. Due to small class sizes and unique faculty-undergraduate student research opportunities, professors get to know students on an individual basis. Professors, not graduate students or teaching assistants, teach at all levels. We also help students get experience outside of Grand Valley. Over 7,500 students have an internship or co-op every year.
With over 400 student groups, clubs and organizations, the outstanding student life program at Grand Valley State University offers many ways to get involved and meet new people. Housing
Undergraduate students are placed in on-campus residence halls (living centers) or apartments. Graduate students are placed in on-campus apartments. The deadline to reserve housing is June 1 and there is a $150 deposit. The University does not assist in finding off-campus housing, but does provide information that students can use.

Student life
The Padnos International Center and the International Club plan many social events including cultural events and trips. The university offers a full program of intercollegiate and intramural sports. There are also over 400 clubs and organizations available for students. The newly expanded recreation center has multi-purpose gymnasiums, a climbing wall, tennis courts, football field, baseball diamond, softball diamonds, soccer field, racquetball and handball courts, an Olympic-sized 50-meter pool, and an award-winning golf course. The campus is just 15 minutes from the city of Grand Rapids and 20 minutes from the beaches of Lake Michigan.
